Reykjavík, Hvolsvöllur area
Take advantage of round-the-clock daylight during the summer in this otherworldly place of dramatic beauty. Revel in the geothermal wonders of Iceland—Blue Lagoon hot springs, volcanic craters and subarctic fauna. From the capital Reykjavik you will travel the popular Golden Circle and see Gullfoss waterfall and the Geysir geothermal area. From there, continue on to the famous black-sand beaches of Vik and the Lava Centre in Hvolsvöllur.

  • Day 1: Fly overnight to Iceland

  • Day 2: Reykjavík

    Meet your Field Director at the airport

    Take a tour of Reykjavik, you will see:

    • Old Town center, the heart of the capital and focal point of many historic sites 
    • Domkirk Cathedral, where services are held before the opening of the Icelandic National Parliament 
    • The Old Harbour, one of the most important harbors in Iceland and home to many restaurants and shops

    Visit the National Museum and soak up a fascinating collection of exhibitions and permanent displays as you gain insight into Iceland's rugged past, medieval days, and contemporary culture 

  • Day 3: Reykjavík • Hvolsvöllur area

     🔹 Guided learning: Take an excursion to Thingvellir National Park, home to Thingvallavatn, the largest lake in Iceland  

    Visit Gullfoss or "Golden" waterfall, so named because of its golden color on sunny days. Afterwards, visit the geothermal area that's home to a multitude of hot springs. 

    Visit a greenhouse powered by pollution-free geothermal and hydroelectric energy

     

    🔹 Cultural engagement: Visit Icelandic horse stables that house a breed that exists only in Iceland known for their fifth gate, called the tölt 


    Enjoy dinner in the Hvolsvöllur area 

  • Day 4: Hvolsvöllur region

     🔹 Cultural engagement: Take a full day excursion in the Hvolsvöllur area

    • Visit the Seljalandsfoss and Skógarfoss waterfalls, two of south Iceland's most famous natural wonders
    • Visit the Village of Vik, where you'll see black sand beaches and the Reynisdrangar rocks


    Visit the Skógar Folk Museum to learn about ancient tools and artifacts dating back to Viking time 

     Glacier Walk: Buckle up your crampons and take the coolest walk of your life—literally—on Sólheimajökull Glacier 

  • Day 5: Reykjavik

    Visit the state-of-the-art Lava Centre, an interactive exhibition that will give you insight into Iceland's geology and its volcanic systems



    🔹 Guided learning: Visit a geothermal power plant and learn about sustainable energy and natural hot springs



    Enjoy dinner in Reykjavík

  • Day 6: Reykjavik

    Take an excursion to Alftanes peninsula

    •  See Bessastaðir, official residence of the president 
    •  Visit Hafnarfjörður and see Lake Kleifarvatn
    •  See geothermal activity in Krísuvík geothermal field

    Visit the Blue Lagoon for a swim in its mineral rich waters, recognized by National Geographic as a natural wonder
